When it comes to cooking, there is many steps, techniques, and theory’s involved. I am creating this article to help you understand some quick short cuts that will defiantly help you out in the kitchen. How do I know these tips will help? Well I use the following cooking tips on a day to day basses, and if you worked in a kitchen professionally than you would see these techniques implemented by chefs around the world.
1- Use a bowl to cut corn off the cob.
This trick is great because it saves on clean up time, and cuts down on messy floors and counter tops. Just hold the corn over the bowl (medium to Large Size Bowl) with the tip of the corn kennel touching the base of the bowl and start slicing.
2- Slam the Head-Of-Lettuce on the table/ cutting board for quick core removal.
Coring iceberg lettuce is also a messy job, and can be a little time consuming. This trick works because it pops the Core right off the Lettuce and makes for easy cutting for salads, and garnishes.
3- Pre- soak garlic cloves in warm water for 5 to 10 minutes, for quick and easy peeling.
Peeling Garlic is such a time consuming project, this trick will save you time. First break the garlic head into cloves and place the garlic in warm water for 5 to 10 minutes. You want the water very warm but not at the boiling or simmering point. After the garlic is soaked you can easily peel the garlic without a knife.
4- Place a damp paper towel / or kitchen rag under your Cutting board
This trick works great because it will help keep your cutting board sturdy and flat. It will also stop the cutting board from slipping and sliding. Why do you want to do this trick, well because if your cutting board is Sturdy than it will help you with creating clean evenly formed cuts on your product, and will reduce the chances of cutting yourself.
5- Grate frozen Butter for Pastry dough
Great trick for even distribution of the butter, in pastry recipes. The trick is to place the butter in the freezer overnight, than use a typical cheese grater to grate the butter, Than use that butter as requested in your pastry recipe.
6- Use cooking Cutters to Pan fry eggs, for fun shapes.
If you are like me ,and have kids, than this trick will work great for engaging your children into eating eggs. Firstly take his /her favorite shape cookie cutter, I use for example aCandy cane shape cutter during Christmas season. I Spray the cutter with pan release spray and place it in the sauté pan. I add a little oil and crack the egg into the cutter and let the egg cook, I than place the pan in the oven to cook the top of the egg. I than serve the egg to my son and he loves it.
